You can check your bank balance in under a minute — often without even opening an app. Here are the five quickest ways in India.

1. Missed call

Most banks let you give a missed call from your registered mobile number to a dedicated number; the call cuts automatically and you get an SMS with your balance. The number is bank-specific — find it on your bank’s website or passbook. This works even on a basic phone with no internet.

2. SMS banking

Send a short keyword (like BAL) to your bank’s SMS banking number from your registered mobile to receive your balance by reply. You may need to register for SMS banking first.

3. UPI app

Open any UPI app (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM), go to your bank account and tap Check Balance. You authenticate with your UPI PIN and see the balance instantly. See how UPI works.

4. Net banking or mobile banking

Log in to your bank’s app or net banking for your balance plus full transaction history. If you have not set it up yet, see how to activate net banking.

5. ATM or passbook

A balance enquiry at any ATM, or updating your passbook at the branch, also shows your balance — useful as a backup.

Tip: turn on balance alerts

Enable SMS or app notifications so you are alerted on every debit and credit — handy for tracking spending and spotting fraud early.

Frequently asked questions

Can I check my bank balance without internet?

Yes. A missed call to your bank’s balance-enquiry number, or an SMS, returns your balance without needing internet.

Is it free to check balance by missed call?

Yes. The call disconnects automatically before connecting, so there is no call charge, and the balance arrives by SMS.

How do I check balance on a UPI app?

Open the app, select your bank account, tap Check Balance and enter your UPI PIN.

Limits, charges and procedures are set by the RBI, NPCI and individual banks and can change. Always confirm current details in your own bank’s app before a transfer. Last updated June 2026.
